Before opening up any programs for editing, I briefly went
over all of the material and sorted it out into folders, separating videos from
audios. When that was set up, I’ve opened the program and started the editing.
To work in a more organized manner, since the video is going to be focused
around information from audio, I’ve started with stitching all audio material
in order following the script and once that was done, the video/background
visuals was developed.
This is a screenshot
of the making of the first graphic in the video, using an animated mask to
split a graphic of the USA in two, representing 6% of the US population.
This effect was achieved by animating a mask splitting
through the graphic, after that was done, I duplicated the graphic and inverted
the mask, this way the graphic is split into two, but it seems like one
graphic. The bottom part of the two graphics was given a noise effect and an
outline on the top, this separated the two graphics like seen in the
screenshot.
The second graphic
was a much richer effect than the first, thus it took a lot of time to make and
render. First job was to create an illustration and import it into the editing
software. After putting 5 of the illustrations on the composition, representing
the anonymous people, several effects were used to give the illustration a 3D
look.
A bevel was applied first, this gave the graphic a rounded
edge, then a semi-transparent fractal noise to give it a stone texture. To
finish up, the whole composition was given a lens effects and 3D rotation, this
sold the 3D effect better.
This animated graphic was used as a preset for later effects
during the interview, mostly to save time as I was running out of time after
fully editing the introduction and the outro.
The outro by far had
the richest effects out of the entire video, consisting of a realistic screen
videography effect, using a repeating semi-transparent red, green, blue stripes
pattern on top of an image to simulate a screen and then replicating the camera
effects used before.
